Virginia Richey Obituary

Virginia L. Richey, age 87, of Marion, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 12:12 pm on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Marion Health.
Born on May 16, 1938, in Grant County, Indiana, Virginia was the daughter of Glenn and Evelyn (Clark) Chapel. She graduated from Fairmount High School.
Virginia married the love of her life, Ernest W. Richey, and together they built a home filled with love, faith, and dedication to family. She spent many years as a devoted homemaker, caring deeply for those around her. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many.
A woman of many talents, Virginia enjoyed sewing and creating arts and crafts. She found joy in listening to gospel music and was known for her gentle heart and unwavering commitment to her loved ones.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Michael Wood) Gilbert of Marion; grandchildren: Desha Richey, Joseph Richey, Michael Smith, Audra Gonzalez, Whitney Gilbert, and Lacey (Joseph) Draper; several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her siblings: Raymond (Lynn) Chapel, Paul (Donna) Chapel, Karen (Ernest) Riggs, Lois McHenry, Melinda (Robert) Padden, Wayne (Susan) Chapel, and Rex Chapel; sister-in-law, Shirley Chapel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Evelyn Chapel; her husband, Ernest W. Richey; her son, Wesley Dee Richey; her great-granddaughter, Cassidy Detamore; and her brother, Glen Edward Chapel.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Virginia's life will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery.
