Mr. Victor Kirkland
North Augusta - Victor Paul Kirkland, 89, husband of the late Barbara Turner Kirkland, passed peacefully away at home on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Along with his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brothers: Pearl Screws, Arrie, James "J.C", Pete, Raymond, Willie, and Eugene Kirkland, and his grandson, Ray Forbes.
He was born in Bellville, GA to the late William Henry and Nina Moore Kirkland. His early years were spent in Augusta, GA where he attended Augusta Richmond Academy until being drafted into the United States Army. While on active duty, he served during the Korean War and the Berlin conflict stateside, then served fifteen years as a Master Sergeant in the Army National Guard. Victor retired from the United States Post Office after thirty-one years of service.
Victor and Barbara were married forty-three years until her death. They had three children: Susan Smith (Dwight), of Gloverville, SC, Lynn Forbes (Mark), of Hanahan, SC, and Greg Kirkland, of Tignall, GA.
He lived an exemplary life of love and devotion. He responsibly and without complaint, always provided for the needs of his family. He set an incredible example for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren-all who think he hung the moon. He was a true animal lover and had a special way with dogs.
Victor was baptized at the age of 11 at the Morningside Baptist Church in Savannah, GA. His love for God grew through the years and he faithfully attended Charleston Church of Christ on Youtube. Victor was a giver and contributed to multiple nonprofits.
Victor had a gentle, kind nature and always expressed his thankfulness. He will be greatly missed. He is very much loved by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Erin Jordan ( Brandon: Cole, Parker, Emma), Eric Smith (Kim: Braydon, Bryson), Brittany Hanley (Keith; Xander, (William), Carlyanna, Rosabelle), wife of the late Ray Forbes (Alison), and Jaime Hicks (Colby and Ailey)
The family would like to thank Lutheran Hospice for their excellent care and love shown during Victor's illness.
