Bulls Gap, TN - On April 8, 2018, a sweet, special lady, whom everyone loved, was laid to rest in the arms of our Lord. Vickie Louise Dyer, 58, of Bulls Gap, joined her glorious Savior on Sunday. As a child, Vickie was saved and became a member of Walkers Missionary Baptist Church.
At church, she served the Lord by working with the children and serving as the church secretary. She also helped and supported her community through the St. Clair Ruritan Club.
She graduated from Bulls Gap High School, WSCC, and ETSU. Thus began her lifelong love of helping and guiding children. She taught at Bulls Gap School for 37 1/2 years. She had no children of her own but at the same time she had more than five hundred. Each and every child that went through her class and each and every niece and nephew she loved and influenced.
Even though she spent so much of her time helping others she took time for another passion, Alabama. She followed the country music group for over 35 years and developed a friendship that was priceless.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, J.D. and Ethel Dyer, Stokley and Maggie Greene; father, Roy L. Dyer; sister, Anita Dyer; nephews, David Michael Burkhart II and Rodney Burkhart.
She is survived by her mother, Maurine Dyer; special friend, John Lawson; brothers, Johnny (Karen) Dyer, Joe (Patricia) Dyer, and Danny (Peggy) Dyer; sisters, Glenda Burkhart and Shirley (Gary) Newton; nephews, Kenneth (Bryanna) Dyer, Justin Dyer, Joshua (Jennifer) Dyer, Tim (Rachel) Dyer, Hiram (Katie) Newton, and Hugh Newton; nieces, Amber (Robert) Hurst, Tina (Andy) Mowell, Kasey (Aaron) Childress, Amanda Dyer, Roseanna (J.R.) Self, Danielle (Jonathan) Honeycutt, Lauren (Richard) Hall, Emily (Joshua) Reese, and Kristen (Troy) Richards; great nieces and nephews, Alex, Morgen, Gavin, Madison, Lilly, Savannah, Austin, Jacob, Natalee, Gabe, Isabelle, Kensley, Samuel, Harper, Lilyann, Lawson, Kathleen, John, Tyna, Kirk, Eli, Pauline, Kaydence, Maverick, Tee, and Jay.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Danny Trent and Rev. Scott Greene officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Gulley Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.christiansells.com.
