Vernon Gilchrist Obituary

G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Mr. Vernon "Boo Boo" Gilchrist who entered into rest September 14, 2025. Mr. Gilchrist was a native of Edgefield County and a 1976 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School. He retired from SCE&G/Dominion Energy as a Gas Journeyman Service Man. He was a member of Old Storm Branch Baptist Church where he served on the Ushers Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Male Chorus and in other capacities. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Carolyn Vanessa Gilchrist; two daughters, Keisha Gilchrist and Vanity T. (Michael) Andis; two sons, Chancey Gilchrist and Teswon L. Gilstrap; father and mother-in-law, Deloris (Earl) Davis; stepmother, Ethel Butler; sisters, Geraldine (Rev. Lorenzo) Williams, Loretta (Michael) Jones, Carolina (Fred) Padgett, Annette (Jerald) Holloway, Johnette (Carsevelt) Lanham, Alicia (Chaplain Johnny) Butler-Williams and Gail (Wilson) Smith; brothers, Lincoln (Mary) Kelly, Sandy Kelly and Kenneth Talbert; aunts, Doris Gilchrist, Claudia (Garcia) Lawton and Grace Butler; brothers-in-law, Scottie (Lisa) Williams, Melvin (Cheryl) Williams, Bradford Williams, Carlos (Glennis) Key, Shawn (Andrea) Key and Reginald (Karla) Jackson; sisters-in-law, Sheenia Hines, Valeria (Willie) Rainey and Aretha Elder; an uncle, Johnell Gilchrist; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Old Storm Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Martris Mims officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
