Thomas Carter Obituary
LANGLEY - Thomas Watson Carter passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017. He was born April 17, 1927, in Langley, South Carolina, son of the late Florence and Thomas Carter.
He was married for 65 years to the late Vivian Strieby Carter and father to the late Thomas Carter, Jr.
He is survived by son, John and wife, Emily, and granddaughters Riley and Ryann Carter. He was the favorite uncle to many and dear friend to even more.
He was an Army Ranger during the Korean War. He was a Clemson graduate and spent his career in the field of Textiles, part of which was spent with United Merchants and Manufacturers and the remaining as a consultant through his own company, Tomahawk.
He will be remembered for his generosity, love for sports, and as the "king of the one liners." His absence will leave a space in our world as he could always fill a room with his stories and personality.
Tom will be laid to rest beside his wife and son in Levels, West Virginia, at a small, graveside ceremony on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 1:00 PM. An informal gathering will be held on December 28 at 4-6 pm at Fitzpatrick's Pub & Restaurant in Greenville, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local Hospice chapter in memory of Tom & Vivian Carter.
All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV.

I just looked up Tom Carter to let him know they are naming a road in North Augusta after my late husband Lou Brissie and I am saddened to see this. Tom and Lou both worked at United Merchants and were the very best of friends for many years.
My condolences to his family. Rest In Peace, although I like to think he and Lou are up there reminiscing about the old days.

Tommy Carter was my Insurance Rep. for several years. Always ready to answer questions and offer assistance. Always pleasant, courteous and optimistic. He will be missed. God Bless his family and friends. He was a wonderful person!

Tom was a lively compassionate soul who lived by honesty integrity and was his own man.
I took in every story he would recall as his history was interesting. Erwin Mills was his first textile position and my Dad was employed with Erwin as well. He loved sports tolerated my dogs very sweetly and gruff at the same time! Tom was quite the dresser and continued to walk miles and swim laps in his pool through last summer. Never a complaint and grateful for his life and his longevity!
Tom will be missed and loved by many .. and there were many.
