Thomas Bates Obituary

Thomas C. Bates Sr.
Aiken - Mr. Thomas Carrol Bates Sr. entered into rest at his home on Saturday November 26, 2022.
Thomas was raised in Windsor - Mt. Beulah area. He graduated from Windsor High School. He worked in Insurance Sales for many years, and along with his sons they formed Bates & Son's Construction Co. in 1963. He was a licensed S.C. Builder, and retired in 1993 where he moved to Lake Murray. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He moved back to Aiken in 2006 due to failing health. He was a life time member of Aiken Masonic Lodge 156. He was a former charter member of Memorial Baptist Church. He helped reestablish North Aiken Baptist Church after construction of S.R.P. He was an Ordained Deacon, served as Sunday school director, served on the pulpit committee, worked with young people in Training Union, and coached church league basketball and softball. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Aiken.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben H. Bates and Daisy Casnetti; brother, W. B. Bates; sisters, Inez Kiesler, Thelma Munday, Nadean Hall; and son, Ronny Bates. He is survived by his loving wife, since 1950, Marjorie Heath Bates; sons, Thomas Bates, Jr., Johnnie (Susan) Bates, Sr., Dr. Rev. Donnie (Tammie) Bates, Monty (Nancy) Bates; sister, Rivie Bolen; brother, Bob Bates; 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Napier Funeral Home Thursday December 1, 2022 from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. followed by a graveside service, celebrating his life at South Lawn Cemetery at 11 A.M., with Pastor Tad Marshall to officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations in Mr. Bates memory be make to the Lake Side Baptist Building Fund.
