AIKEN, SC - Funeral Services for our beloved mother and "Nana," Mrs. Thelma Muns Adams Edwards, 87, who entered peacefully into rest on November 23 at home surrounded by loved ones, will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. David Annis officiating. Interment in Aiken Memorial Park.
Mrs. Edwards was a life-long resident of Aiken County, SC. Born in Old Ellenton to sharecropper parents and raised in Dunbarton, SC, Mrs. Edwards was the youngest of 11 siblings. She was the loving mother of five children. While raising a large family, she completed her education in nursing, achieving the second highest score statewide on her board exams. Mrs. Edwards was a practicing nurse for many years at the Medical College of Georgia and its dental school.
Always one to exhibit in herself the fortitude and independence she would continually inspire in others, family and friends alike, Mrs. Edwards reinvented her career after her children were raised and pursued a successful practice in real estate. She was a magnanimous Nana to five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; never letting them forget the importance of Southern charm and love of family, especially while beating them all at cards.
She was mother, wife, grandmother, friend, and mentor to many; lake and beachgoer; avid reader, traveler, and phenomenal cook of downhome comfort food. Above all, Thelma was gracious and loving and is simply irreplaceable. She crafted and secured a family bond across generations that will continue for as long as ocean waves lap onto the Carolina coast.
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Henry "Doc" Adams; a grandson Jason Annis; daughter Cheri Adams; and husband Carlton "Sarge" Edwards.
Survivors include her children, Jackie Laumann (Ken), Fruita, CO, Mike Adams (Linda), North Augusta, SC, Bob Adams (Brenda), of Ohio, Candy Annis, Charleston, SC; a sister Margaret McCullough, Decatur, AL; four grandchildren Rhonda, Laura, Allen, and Robby; eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Skye, Hannah, Sage, Allison, Owen, Cole, and William.
Pallbearers will be Allen Annis, Michael Annis, Robby Adams, Mike Gish, Burt Edward Waller and Jim Gambrell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 until 8.
