Sylvia “Ann” (Evans) Dorsey was born to Alice Francis (Evans) Barber in Washington DC on March 22,1966. Sylvia was a DC native born and raised in the District. She attended elementary, middle and high school in the District of Columbia. Sylvia graduated high school in 1984 from McKinley Tech. She loved her Dallas Cowboys and was known for being a "CHOCOLATE MEAN QUEEN". She had this look that would say everything she was feeling . If looks could kill! If you didn’t know her you couldn’t forget her chocolate skin tone and stature. Sylvia birthed four children, but was a mother to many. She loved her kids more than she loved herself. She loved her children with everything in her - Tiffany Tameka (Evans) Brown , Danielle Dominique Evans, Lionel Ace Evans & Paul Jerome Dorsey Jr. Son-in-law Antwone Atkinson, bonus children Deon Peterson, DeLante Mitchell, Chance Adams, Itara Cooper and God Son Shawn Barber. When she loved she loved hard. Her heartbeat matched his; Darren Mitchell her fiancé was and has always been by her side. Ann was a hard worker but she also loved to go to the casino and laugh hard. She worked all the time and traveled in her spare time. She would rather work than be home. She was serious about her money. She worked at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, and The State Department. Sylvia worked 22 years at the National Gallery of Art. In her younger years she would do hair until her hands cramped up. Ann babysat children. She was a hard worker and very committed. In her travels she has been many places. Her favorite places that she visited were Jamaica, Grand Turk and the Bahamas. She and her best friends loved to travel. Marlo Virgil, Angela Adams & Darren Mitchell we’re living their best life outside of D.C. Sylvia has many spoiled grandchildren. They loved their Nana. Iyanna Brown, Terrence Brown , Jeremiah Evans, Antwone Atkinson Jr., Maurionna Burris, Alayjah Evans, Zion Atkinson, Darian Dorsey, Dayonna Mason, Halo Atkinson, and Khaii Barnes . Ann was the strongest woman many of us knew. A true dark beauty. Secretly she has fought this battle for 18 years. She worked and traveled through her pain and struggle, and pulled herself together like it was nothing. Her strength and will to live was extraordinary. Our queen has gained her wings and she is now free like the butterflies she loved so much. Ann is preceded in death by her mother, Alice Barber (2016) and her baby sister, Laronica Davis (2018). She leaves to cherish her beautiful, strong memories a host of family and friends. She is also survived by seven siblings.
