SARAH WELCH Obituary

WELCH, SARAH ELIZABETH LAY - went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, June 13, 2014. Sarah entered this life on March 22, 1940, and she was a faithful member of Walridge Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, and she never met a stranger. Sarah drove a school bus for the Knox County School system for 40 years. She loved the children who rode her bus and she touched many lives. Sarah was creative and loved sewing and crafts. She enjoyed her many travels with her husband to various parts of the world. Sarah was preceded in death by parents, Claude and Dorena Lay; sister, Nancy Lay Penney; sister-in-law, Nancy Lay; nephew, David Robert Lay; son-in-law, Terry Davis; and also by her lifelong friend, Wilma Long. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Glenn Welch; daughters, Christina Davis, and Mitzi Brashier and husband Ray Brashier; brothers, David Lay of Atlanta, GA, and J.C. Lay of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Terran and Taylor Davis, Brandon Brashier, and Laura Harter; great grandchild, Walton Harter. Friends may join the family in the celebration of her life Monday, June 16, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Brother Toby Webber officiating. The family and friends will gather at Sherwood Memorial Gardens at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Walridge Baptist Church, 3020 Walridge Road, Knoxville, TN 37921, American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909, or the Kidney Foundation, 5201 Kingston Pike, Suite 6-130, Knoxville, TN 37919.
