Sandra Dunn Obituary
Sandra Jane (Faires) Dunn
AIKEN - With overwhelming joy, Sandra Jane (Faires) Dunn, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, walked through heaven's gates to meet her Savior and reunite with her husband, son, and other special family members on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Sandra was born in Selmer, Tennessee, on January 16, 1942, to Auzie Ellis and Virginia Estelle (Hardin) Faires. She was a 1960 graduate of Coffee High School and (the former) Saint Thomas School of Nursing in 1963. She met the love of her life, Robert E. Dunn, Jr., when she was 16 years old, spending over 52 happy and adventurous years married to him.
Sandra was a Registered Nurse for more than 40 years, ultimately serving in Director of Nursing roles and as an auditor for the State of Georgia. She was very involved in the Methodist Church throughout her life, leading children's groups and choirs when her children were young, attending Bible Studies, UMW Circles, knitting circles, and ultimately becoming a Stephens Minister to support families and individuals in crisis. She was an incredible cook and always enjoyed entertaining, gardening, sewing, painting, and reading. She especially loved her retirement, travelling around the world with her husband and friends, and spending time with her grown children and grandchildren.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Auzie and Estelle Faires, her son, Jim (James Alexander), her husband, Bob, her brother, Frank (Sarah) Faires, and sister, Christine Faires (Vernon) Richey. She is survived by her two daughters, Jane Ellen (Frank) Hudson of LaGrange, Georgia, Susie (Gordon) Whitener of Knoxville, Tennessee, and grandchildren, Frank (Hailey) Hudson, Robert Dunn (Bobby) Hudson, Caroline Hudson (Curt) Duncan, Macy Whitener (Miller) DeVenny, James Alexander Dunn Whitener, John David (Brennan) Whitener, Maggie Whitener (Spencer) Strider, and Molly Whitener, 23 great-grandchildren, sister and brother in-law, Diane (Dunn) and Tom Miniard, and her adored nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sandy's family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support and condolences during this difficult time, especially to her wonderful carers at West Georgia and UT Hospice Services, as well as LaQuita Brewster and Gail Kadau. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to her and Bob's home church: St. John's Methodist Church, 104 Newberry Street, Aiken, South Carolina 29801.
