Ruby Stewart Obituary
G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Ms. Ruby E. Alston Stewart who entered into rest November 17, 2025.
Ms. Stewart was a native of Georgetown, South Carolina. She graduated from Choppee High School in 1973. She continued her education at Voorhees College, where she graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She obtained her Master's Degree from the University of South Carolina and received a Specialist Degree in Education Leadership from Augusta College. She taught and served as Principal at Jenkins White Elementary School and W. S. Hornsby Elementary School, where she retired.
Ms. Stewart was a member of Carpentersville Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher's Ministry, Joy Ministry, Deaconess Ministry, Christian Women's Alliance and Sunday School/VBS Director. She was a member and Past President of the Aiken Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the CSRA Alumnae Chapter of Voorhees University.
Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Fahnie Stewart (Atiba, Sr.) Shaw and LaTrice Stewart (Antonio, Sr.) Carter; a son, LaFayette A. (Anya) Stewart, Jr.; five sisters, Vernell Bodley, Louretta (James) Howze, Barbara Alston (Errick) Bryant, Janette (Melvin) Fleming and Vervatine Reid; mother-in-law, Fannie Lamback Stewart; five grandchildren, Zaire J. Shaw, Atiba "AJ" Shaw, Jr., LaFayette "Tripp" Stewart, III, Coleman Stewart and Antonio J. Carter, Jr.; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Old Storm Branch Baptist Church where the Rev. Martris Mims is the pastor and the Rev. Leonard Alston eulogist. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors at the residence (204 Edna St, North Augusta, SC) from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM daily beginning Friday, November 21, 2025.
