"thumbs up" (his favorite gesture) for the memory of one of our favorite friends. We will miss him.

I had the privilege of working for R.L. "Bob" Morgan for more than 10 years. I was a new ERDA employee and R. L. was deputy manager at Savannah River. He possessed that rare ability to turn all heads in a room when he entered. I observed this quality many times in many settings. Perhaps it was the military bearing he acquired at West Point. When Bob Morgan spoke people listened. Bob also followed the careers of his junior employees long after they left the AEC/ERDA/DOE family, including, much to my surprise, mine. He was a man to look up to. Our sympathies to his family.

It was my privilege to be Rockin Bob's neighbor. Years after he and Arden welcomed me to Aiken, I learned of this modest man's significant contribution to the policy debate over commercial nuclear waste. This NY Times article tells the story: http://www.nytimes.com/1983/05/16/us/fishbowl-task-deciding-how-to-dispose-of-nuclear-waste.html

Barbara, our thoughts and have been with you during the illness of your father. It was such a privilege having known him.

To Carole & Family:
I was very saddened to learn of Bob's passing. He was a hell of a guy and a great friend who always had good advice and ideas and follow-through. He was an excellent judge of character and had a wry sense of humor and wit. I learned a lot from Bob and met him first in 1995. I will miss him much as I am sure his family and friends will too.
