Robert Knight Obituary
Aiken - Mr. Robert Nelson "Bobby" Knight, 90, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
Bobby was born in Ridgeville, SC, a son of the late Kenneth Nelson and Ellen Claire Smith Knight. He lived most of his life in Aiken, served in the US Navy on the USS Coral Sea, and owned and operated the Palace Market. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, serving in his church, playing golf, and watching sports, especially college football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #26, and very involved in its activities, especially the baseball program. He was the recipient of the American Legion 2019 Legionnaire of the Year Award. He was a long-time member and deacon of First Baptist Church Aiken, and a charter member and deacon of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Evelyn Hall Knight; daughters, Terri (Glen) Wright, Lexington, SC, Diane (Bobby) Darr, Aiken, Lisa (Tracy) Price, Ridge Spring, SC, Paula (Mark) Bolton, Aiken; grandchildren, Travis Wright, Chandler Wright, Meredith Wright, Shelby Tindal, Addison McNelly, Allison Price, Morgan Price, Luke Bolton, Timothy Bolton, John Mark Bolton, and Rebekah Bolton; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; sisters, Kitty (Ben) Johnson, Gastonia, NC, Ann McGee, Aiken; sisters in law, Pat Knight, N. Augusta, SC, Emily Hall Leonard.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill Knight, Benny Knight, Ellen Thompson, and Francis Knight.
A visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00pm Saturday, March 7, 2020, and the Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Reverend Darrell Engle officiating. Military honors provided by the US Navy will follow the service.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post #26.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post #26, P.O. Box 977, Aiken, SC 29802-0977.
