Richard Srubas Obituary

Richard Albert Srubas, 74, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Aiken Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Born on September 7, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Richard was a true testament to a life well-lived, marked by dedication to his family, profession, and community. Son to the late Albert and Evelyn Srubas, Mr. Srubas embarked on a successful career in accounting with the Veteran's Adminstratio. His keen attention to detail and passion for numbers were just the right blend for his vocation, where he made significant contributions throughout his valued career. Richard was married to the love of his life, Laura E. Srubas. Together, they shared 40 years of devotion, partnership, and shared adventures that spanned across continents. The couple settled in Aiken, SC, where Richard became an integral part of the community, especially through his active involvement with the Men's Golf Club at Woodside. Golf, travel, and family were his greatest joys, and he spent many cherished days on the green, exploring the world with Laura, and nurturing his growing family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Jamie (Tami) Srubas of Acworth, GA, and Christopher (Amanda) Srubas of Decatur, GA. Richard was a proud grandfather to Gabrielle (Ben) Pike, Ben Srubas, Hannah (Jonah) Swenson, Claire Srubas, and Sofia Srubas. His legacy lives on through his great-grandchildren, Isaac Pike and Avery Pike. Each of them carries a piece of his wisdom, humor, and love in their hearts. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Evelyn Srubas, but leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations. His life was a living testament to the importance of family, friendships, and the power of a welcoming smile. The Srubas family suggests that those who wish to honor Richard's memory consider donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriner's Children's Research Hospital, reflecting his commitment to helping future generations thrive. A Celebration of Life in honor of Mr. Srubas will be held on August 24, 2025 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm at Woodside Country Club, 1000 Woodside Plantation Drive, Aiken, SC 29801. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801, (803) 649-6234. Richard's memory will forever remain with those he touched. His spirit is engrained in the hearts of all he loved, and his legacy is not written in words alone but in the lives of those he inspired and cared for deeply. Dear Laura,
I am stunned. I´m very sorry not to have known that Richard was ill. Living away from Woodside life keeps me uninformed about those I care about. Please know that I am thinking of you and your family and have a very heavy heart because this world lost one of the good ones.
Love, Laura (DeCillis) Kelly
