Rhett Sinclair Obituary

Rhett Eugene "Gene" Sinclair
Aiken - Rhett Eugene (Gene) Sinclair, 90 of Aiken, SC, passed away peacefully, surrounded in the love of family and friends on May 23, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Wesley Sinclair and Allie Mosely Sinclair, siblings Lenora and William, half siblings Willis and EP. He is survived by his sister, Jane Sinclair Smith. One son, Stephen Wesley Sinclair died in 2008.
Together with his loving wife of 72 years, Zenobra (Nobie) Hughes Sinclair, they created a large, close family. Their sons include Ronald Eugene Sinclair (Marcia), Glenn Stewart Sinclair and Jayne Fincher Sinclair, Pastor Kenneth Alan Sinclair (Kim); and Rhett Nolan Sinclair (Kim). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. To each member of the family, he was father, teacher, guardian, advocate, mentor, and friend. From him we learned to approach life with a positive attitude, work with our brains as well as with our hands, to make lists to organize the work of each day, to reach for the stars, to sing, to be kind, to be a loving parent and spouse, and a faithful friend. Gene had a gift for building relationships with others. That gift made him successful in every job he worked throughout a long, distinguished career in sales. Whether maintaining and selling AT&T equipment in his early years or selling nuclear analyzers for Nuclear Data (later to be known as Canberra), Gene was successful because he realized that each person he contacted was important, and worthy of being called friend. Gene shared his hobbies with his friends, including a special group who more than 50 years ago, began making an annual fishing trip to Cedar Key, Florida. Though for the past several years due to declining health, Gene could not make the trip, his family and friends maintained the tradition, and still do today. As a ham radio operator with the call sign W4VSW, he talked with and made friends all over the world. Many nights were spent connecting foreign missionaries with their families back home who depended upon these connections to stay in touch. Gene loved Trinity United Methodist Church in Aiken. He loved to sing in their choir, and his tenor voice will be missed by all. Gene was a singer in the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games for several years, and he served as clan representative for the "Sinclair's" at regional games. He loved helping friends and neighbors who needed things repaired, and he had the tools and knowledge to fix almost anything.
His was a life well lived, and he is already missed. But through his family and friends, his example for loving life, caring for others, service, strength, and honesty lives on.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, May 27th from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home 715 East Pine Log Road, Aiken SC 29803.
The Funeral Service will be held Saturday morning, May 28th at 11 o'clock at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2724 Whiskey Rd. Aiken SC 29803.
Interment will follow the Service at Bethany Cemetery at the Corner of Hampton Ave. and Laurens St. Aiken SC 29801.
Following, the Sinclair family has invited those who wish to attend a Celebration poolside at the home of Rhett and Kim Sinclair.
The Sinclair Family all have a special place in our Hearts for our Extended Family at the Benton House of Aiken. Their sincere love for those they serve is the most unique.
