Philip Courtney Obituary

Philip Lanier Courtney, Jr. -BYRON - Philip Lanier Courtney, Jr., age 67, of 111 Courtney Drive, Byron, GA 31008, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at his home. Graveside Services will be held Friday, July 25, 2003 at 11:00AM at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hospice Care Options, 151 College Street, Macon, GA. 31201. -Mr. Courtney was the son of the late Philip Lanier, Sr. and Frederica B. Courtney. He was born in Augusta, GA and raised in Aiken, SC. In 1951, he moved to Macon with his family where he attended Lanier High School. He graduated Lanier High School in 1954 and attended Auburn University. Mr. Courtney served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Europe. -He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Dixie Attaway Courtney. Mr. Courtney was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church. In the past he was Vice-President of the Macon Jaycees. He also worked in the Farm Equipment business and was a Broker in Real Estate. For the past 25 years he was Chief Operating Officer of Goldfield Mining International, Inc. with operations in Nevada, California, Arizona and Utah. -In 1998 he retired to his farm in Byron, GA. -He is survived by his wife, Joan Pruett Courtney; daughter Cindy Attaway Courtney of Indianapolis, IN; step-daughters Tracy Garrett Bradley of Macon, GA and Dana Garrett Dotherow of Dry Branch, GA; sons-in-law, Edward N. Bradley, Jr. and Richard A. Dotherow; and grandsons Justin A. Bradley and Richard Garrett Dotherow. -Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
