Peter Smith Obituary

Peter Smith, Jr. passed peacefully from this life the morning of March 23, 2025, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and friends during the last days of his life. Peter, a son of the late Peter Bun Smith, Sr. and Castelia Smith, was born on August 16, 1941, in Jackson, South Carolina. He received his early education in the public schools of Aiken County. He became a member of Zion Fair Missionary Baptist church at an early age where he served on the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Men's Choir, and Men's Auxiliary Ministry. Peter was a member of the Aiken Masonic Lodge and was fortunate to have a prosperous career at both Habit for Humanity and Owens-Corning Fiberglass where he retired after 36 years. Peter met his late wife, Janie M. Smith at Martha Schofield High School, Aiken, South Carolina. This meeting resulted in their marriage of 44 years. Peter and Janie lives were blessed with two daughters, Theresa Smith, Pamela Rodriguez, and one special daughter LaTonya New. He was blessed with one loving granddaughter, Angelica Rodriguez. Peter is survived by his two daughters Theresa A. Smith, Aiken SC, Pamela D. Rodriguez, Aiken SC, Special Daughter Latonya (Demetrius) New, Greenville SC and one granddaughter Angelica L. Rodriguez. Peter enjoyed his church family, senior choir, usher board, the outdoors, fishing, boxing, hunting, race cars, but above all he loved his God, family, and spending time with his granddaughter Angelica. Peter's family and numerous friends cherish the time we had with him. All will deeply miss him. In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his wife Janie M. Smith, four sisters, Lizzie Aaron, Ollie Bush, Nancy Bush, Dora Bell Cook and three brothers, John Henry Smith, Tillman Smith and Edward Smith. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: one loving brother James (Lorraine) Smith, two sisters Laura Riley and Emily Walker; three brothers-in-law Charles Richardson, Johnny Richardson, and Robert Richardson of Aiken, SC; four sisters-in-law Ida Bell Smith, Elizabeth (Herbert) Spann, Carolyn (Ollie) Thomas, and Brenda Hamilton all of Aiken, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
