Mrs. Peggy C. Dineen, 77, entered into rest Saturday, January 31st, at NHC health care in North Augusta surrounded by family and a group of compassionate health care providers. A Committal Service will be held at Pineview Memorial Mausoleum on February 6, at 2:00, with Fr. Jacob Almeter officiating. Family and friends are invited to her Committal Service to mourn her passing. Floral tributes may be sent to Posey Funeral Directors.
Peggy was born April 13 1948 to the late John J. Collins and Jean Bibinger Collins in
Neenah, WI. A self-described army brat, Peggy and her family relocated frequently. The eldest of four siblings, Chris Willis, Maureen Broome and John Collins, her family spent several years in Italy. She attended the Vicenza American High School with Chris, and future brother-in-law, Tim Dineen. By chance, she would come to meet her future husband Michael M. Dineen on a bus trip. Her family relocated to
Augusta, GA where she graduated at Richmond Academy Highschool. Her and Mike's path would cross again when their fathers were stationed at Ft. Gordon. They married on January 24, 1970, and spent 56 devoted years together.
As a creative home maker, she loved macrame, crocheting blankets, and collecting trinkets. She relished making memorable Halloween costumes and was always the last person on the block handing out candy. In July 1986, Mike and Peggy moved back to the Augusta area and settled in North Augusta to raise their daughters close to their families. She was a respected designer and worked for Georgia Wholesale Floral Distributors for nearly 30 years. Her stellar creations were sought by businesses, special events coordinators and local venues, including the Augusta National Master's Green Jacket ceremony. She maintained a hedge of voluminous azaleas and other plantings in her spare time.
Like her parents, she was an avid bowler. She frequented the Brunswick Bowling Alley-she was formidable and won many tournament games. She loved to read: her favorite book was The Good Earth. She also loved music and had her favorite CDs always on rotation in her car.
Peggy was endlessly charitable: she volunteered with the Salvation Army; she was a frequent blood donor, and gave generously to St. Jude's Children's' hospital, The Alzheimer's Association, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society among others.
She loved her dogs dearly, and her greatest joy was her grandsons. She was present at bedside for all of their births. She supported them enthusiastically at their sports, arts, and extracurricular activities.
It is impossible to fully describe the impact she has had on the lives of her loved ones.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Mike Dineen; her daughters, Laurel Dineen (Matthew Nelson), Stephanie Dineen Kellogg (Jeremy Minney) and her beloved grandsons, Jacob and Stephen Nelson of North Augusta, and John Kellogg of Burnet TX.
