PATRICK VOGEL Obituary

VOGEL, PATRICK HERMAN - born February 3, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away in the early morning hours of February 21, 2014, peacefully at home in Louisville, Tennessee. He attended E. W. Grove High School in Paris, Tennessee, and graduated from Henry County High School. His high school career was one of academic and athletic distinction. Some of his high school records remain unbroken. Pat was a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He worked for several years in Knoxville restaurants before moving to Dallas, Texas, to enter the wine and spirits industry. For the great majority of his career he was the president of state operations for National Distributing Company, in New Mexico, Colorado and Maryland. Pat retired early, and he and his wife, Mandy, moved back to East Tennessee to their home on Fort Loudon Lake in Blount County. Pat was the loving son of the late Herman Lentz Vogel, known as Bunny, and Caroline Carothers Vogel of Paris, Tennessee. Until his passing, he remained devoted to their memory and the gifts and lessons of life they so effortlessly bestowed. Pat leaves his dedicated, loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Mary Amanda (Mandy) Richards Vogel; his son, Matthew Lentz Vogel of Denver, CO; his son, Patrick Maxmillian Vogel of Boston, MA; his dear daughter-in-law, Katherine Pickett Vogel of Boston; and his magical granddaughter, Elizabeth Jacqueline Vogel also of Boston; his dear mother-in-law, Mary Dean Richards Laird of Louisville, TN; sister-in-law, Marta Alison Richards of Baton Rouge, LA; his brother, Howard H. Vogel; sister-in-law, Lynn Massey Vogel, and several nieces and nephews, Richard and Stephanie Massony of Arlington, VA, Patrick Alexander and Kellie Polinski Vogel of Knoxville, TN, Anna Kathryn and Dixon Hart Greenwood of Knoxville, TN, and Caroline Carothers Vogel of Knoxville, TN. He leaves many more loving family members and friends. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Pat will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014, 1:00 p.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan, Knoxville, TN, with the Reverend Taylor W. Dinsmore, officiating. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan, 425 Cedar Bluff Rd., Knoxville, TN, 37923; Grace Epsicopal Church, 103 S. I was very sad to her of Pat's passing. I remember him from our days together at the Copper Cellar in Knoxville in the late 70's.
Many complimentary adjectives would describe Pat. He was a gentleman, soft spoken, very handsome and a lot of fun. It was nearly 35 years later that I was giving a Eulogy for our departed brother Eli Whitney and I looked out in the congregation and saw this handsome couple and immediately paused and smiled. I recognized Pat and Mandy.
I don't know what transpired in Pat's life in those 35 years but I am sure it was good stuff and worthy of celebration.
I celebrate you Pookie!

Mandy, I'm in disbelief. I had no clue until today about Pat and I'm devastated for you and your family. I'm so sorry I haven't made it to Tennessee in recent years because I would have gotten to see you both. I have so enjoyed seeing all the beautiful images posted on FB of you, Pat, the children over the years. I know he was your great love and I feel blessed to have witnessed it's beginning. He was a wonderful person and will be missed by all. Much love during this time of tremendous grief. My thoughts are with you.

Mandy,
I am so sorry for the loss of a true friend and a genuinely good man. The true definition of gentleman is gentle man and Pat was all of that and more. Tammy and I have nothing but fond memories of the time we spent together in New Mexico. I know words offer little solace to you and the family, but please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. Always, Bob and Tammy.

Mandy,
You now have your own special angel always looking after you, Mandy. This song called "In the Arms of the Angels" by Sarah Maclaclan reminded me of you today. It's a beautiful song. I hope you can find comfort in the love you had with Pat and all the family and friends that still surround you. And let yourself grieve and heal, grieve and heal for however long you need. The first year is the roughest.
All love to you,
China

Mandy, I wanted to write the perfect memorial but find myself at a loss - there are no words that could ever do justice to Pat's life and legacy. Instead, please know you and your family are in our hearts and we wish we could do much more. Pat's life touched so many - I am grateful to have known both you and him. As I struggle to say what's in my heart I can hear his laughter and see his twinkling eyes... He made us all better people. Please know you have many friends here, in New Mexico, and if you need anything just let us know. Hope you feel the invisible arms of all of us around you and the Vogel family. I will always love you and Pat. Those feelings will never end. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. Peace and Love to you and yours.

To Howard and the Vogel family. My brother and I were very sorry to read about Pats passing. It's been a long time but we use to play ball in the empty lot next to your house on Edgewood St. We had some good times and forever memories. With sympathy; Marc Wiggins and Mac Wiggins.
