Patricia Lumans Obituary
Patricia Lumans
HILLSBOROUGH, NC - Patricia Hutchins Lumans, 78, passed away at home on Friday, August 15, 2025.
Known for her deep kindness, unwavering compassion, and gentle spirit, Patricia left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She approached life with grace and warmth, always putting others at ease and offering her support with quiet strength.
Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, to the late Willis and Kathryn Hutchins, Patricia was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, William B. Hutchins.
She grew up in Southeast Florida and went on to earn a degree in Sociology from the University of Florida, where she was a proud member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Later in life, she pursued her love of creativity by earning a degree in Interior Design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, graduating summa cum laude.
Her professional life began in social work in both Florida and North Carolina - a field where she not only made a meaningful impact but also formed some of her closest and lifelong friendships with her colleagues. Later, she transitioned to a fulfilling career in Interior Design, specializing in kitchens and baths in the Aiken, SC, and Augusta, GA areas.
Patricia was deeply involved in her community. She was active in the PTAs of Aiken Elementary and Schofield Middle School, where her children attended. She was a dedicated member of the Sand River Women's Club in Aiken for over 30 years, serving in leadership roles including Secretary and President. She also served two terms as Secretary on both the Board and Executive Board of the Aiken Center for the Arts. She also gave back by volunteering with Meals on Wheels and remained committed to causes close to her heart.
In retirement, Patricia and her husband settled in Hillsborough, NC. She found joy in gardening, traveling, and had an exceptional talent for watercolor painting. Above all, she treasured time spent with her grandson, Dashel, who was the light of her life.
Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Valdis O. Lumans; her son, Alexander H. Lumans of Berlin, Germany; her daughter, Christine Z. Williams and son-in-law Nicholas F. Williams of Charleston, SC; and her cherished grandson, Dashel N. Williams.
Per her wishes, no formal service will be held. Instead, she asked that friends and family raise a glass in her honor-preferably a gin and tonic-and toast to a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy, an organization close to Patricia's heart.
