Norma Pate Obituary
WEST POINT, VA - Norma Mathis Pate, 97, formerly of North Augusta, SC, passed away January 19, 2018.
Mrs. Pate, a native of North Augusta, SC, was the daughter of D.T. and Minnie Lanham Mathis. She graduated from Coker College with degrees in Math and English. Mrs. Pate married Bennie Pate in 1957. After teaching 33 years in GA, FL and SC, she retired from Belvedere Elementary in SC. She was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church and was an active member in Delta Kappa Gamma for over 60 years.
Mrs. Pate is survived by her sons, Joe Pate (Anne) of Cherry Valley, IL and Norman Pate (Lisa) of West Point, VA; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Pate Thomas of Clover, SC. She was a loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Linda Carlton was her exceptional caregiver. She was predeceased by her brothers, Dan and Fred Mathis, and her son, Benny Dee Pate (Judy).
A memorial service will be held 1 PM, Saturday, January 27th at Sweetwater Baptist Church, 198 Sweetwater Rd., North Augusta, SC 29860. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service, at the church.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of Sweetwater Baptist Church (see address above). Tributes may be posted at www.vincentfh.com.

The Ralston family sends love and condolences to your family. Norma was a wonderful neighbor to us in Marion and such a good friend to our family through the years. After she moved to North Augusta, our mother Helen always enjoyed visiting with her when we were over in Edgefield. Although Mom has been unable to communicate with her friends in recent years, Norma kept calling and sending cards, and it was a real blessing. We all have fond memories of hanging out at the Pate's house, carpooling to Pee Dee Academy (stopping at the Russell-Stover factory on the way home!), and most of all, the kindness shared with our family.

What an inspiration Mrs. Norma was to me for such a long time. I enjoyed being with her every minute I could at Sweetwater Baptist Church. She called me about a year ago and I was so happy to hear from her. I know she will be sorely missed on this earth but oh how she was welcomed into heaven with open arms!
