Nancy Hunter Obituary

Nancy Kay Hunter
LANCASTER, SC - Ms. Nancy Kay Hunter, 73, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at Springs Memorial Hospital.
She was born February 1, 1941 in Lancaster, SC, the daughter of the late Quay Charles Hunter and Sara Louise Murphy Hunter.
She was a 1958 graduate of Lancaster High School and received a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Winthrop in 1962. She taught math and science at Wray Junior High School High in Gastonia, NC before marrying Robert A. Porter, Jr. from Williston, SC and subsequently moved to Aiken, SC where she resided for 48 years.
She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Nancy Kay taught math and art including six years at Aiken Junior High School and 19 years at South Aiken High School.
She enjoyed raising her children and participating in the Pine Needle Garden Club and the Aiken Artist Guild.
Kay retired from teaching in 2000 to become a caregiver for her father in Lancaster, SC where she returned to her roots.
There she rejoined her home church, reconnected with dear friends from the Blue Hurricane Supper Club and became reacquainted with her very first best friend Mary Ruth.
To her, living at the river was her own piece of heaven. Having friends from her childhood made them the best friends. She was richly blessed and highly favored and she did not take it lightly. She was a highly talented artist, amazing cook and could sew or make anything. She loved to share these talents with friends and family. Kay touched many lives and will be dearly missed.

Nancy Kay and I were roommates at Winthrop our freshman and sophomore years. Recently, we had reconnected and spent hours on the phone together, talking like we had always been in touch with each other. I didn't find the Obituary until yesterday. What a shock! I miss her terribly.
