Nancy Church Obituary

Nancy Carol Snyder Church
AIKEN, SC - Nancy Carol Snyder Church, a long-time resident of Aiken, SC, died Monday, January 23, 2017 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, January 28, 2017 at 3:30pm in Saint John's Methodist Church Sanctuary.
Nancy was born September 20, 1937, to Hazel and Sanford Snyder. She grew up in Delisle, Ohio and after attending college moved to Dayton where she met the love of her life, John P. Church. They were married in 1959 and moved to Florida where John attended graduate school. Upon John's graduation, they moved to Aiken, SC. After growing up in the mid-west, Nancy welcomed the warm weather and the warm people of the South.
While raising their 2 children, Nancy pursued her true passion for art. She was a talented photographer, potter, and painter, and was an active member of the Aiken Artist Guild for many years. She earned her Bachelor of Art Education from USC and taught art in several of the schools in Aiken County. Her paintings were often inspired by places to which she and John had traveled - they had many wonderful adventures in their 57 years of marriage.
Nancy was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She encouraged her family in all of their interests and activities, and volunteered wherever she was needed. She was a loving soul, a kind-hearted, generous friend, and a gentle teacher of some of life's most important lessons. Full of patience, grace, and a keen sense of humor, she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband, John Church, son Jack Church (Heidi), daughter Carol Church Ozor (Tim), grandchildren Thomas Sol-Church, Natalie Ozor, and Grace Ozor, sister Sybil Truster (Ken), and brother James Snyder (Roberta).
The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving and compassionate care Nancy received for the last several years from DayBreak Services and Agape Hospice; many thanks to Wanda, Catherine, Gwenta, and a very special thanks to Jewel. So many others have helped along the way as well - we are eternally grateful. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
