Murphree Donnan Obituary
AIKEN - Mr. Murphree "Yates" Donnan, 95, beloved husband of Jessie Gregory Donnan passed away Monday, June 6, 2022.
Yates was born in Louisville, KY but lived most of his life in SC. He served in the Navy during WWII. After the war, he graduated from Furman University and then began a 30-plus-year career working as a chemist at SRP. Yates enjoyed gardening, the lapidary arts, and painting. He and his wife traveled extensively, including taking three world cruises. Yates especially loved dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Ernestine Donnan; brother, Hugh Donnan; sister, Lois Hinds; son, Murph Donnan, and his first wife, Ruth Merritt.
Yates is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jessie G. Donnan; four daughters; Marilyn Donnan and Connie Morris of Augusta, Janie Donnan of Aiken, Carole Shackelford of Perdido Key, FL; five grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Friends of the Animal Shelter, FOTAS, PO Box 2207, Aiken, SC 29802 or a charity of your choice.
