Ms. Janice Anderson Obituary
Janice Milligan Anderson, August 27, 1939- August 15, 2025, was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Dr. J. Carswell Milligan, LLD., and Lois Elizabeth Robbins Milligan Lee.
She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Betty Gibbs, Jane Berger, and James C. "Jimmy" Milligan, Jr.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 2PM in Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia.
A memorial service to honor Janice's life will be held in Augusta, Georgia at a later date. The specific date and location will be announced.
Left to cherish Janice's memory are her children, Joseph "Joe" Anderson (Nicole), Grovetown, GA, Jill Ferguson, Hiawassee, GA, and James M. Anderson, Jr. (Watha), Gray, GA; brother, Phil Webber (Wendi), Texas; grandchildren, Brandon Moorehead (Shiloh), Chasity Crowley, Chandler Anderson (Brittany), Tyler Nelson, Amanda Fitton, Marland Ferguson, III, James Ferguson (Amanda), and Janice Hogland (Andrew), and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Janice was educated in the public schools of Savannah, Georgia, and the University Hospital School of Nursing. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. She was a licensed Registered Nurse who spent many of her nursing years in Cardiology, and was also a Registered Cardiac Sonographer.
Ms. Anderson was an early pioneer and leader of Intensive Cardiac Care in Augusta Georgia and was the Head Nurse of the first Coronary Care Unit in Augusta at St. Joseph Hospital. Her Leadership and Educational roles at one time included, Instructor Basic Educational Program for Nurses in Coronary Care, St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta, GA, and Chairman of Nursing Education Committee for the Georgia Heart Association. A member of the Georgia Affiliate of the American Heart Association, she received Bronze, Silver, and Gold Service Medallions in 1971, 1973, and 1975. She also served a Chairperson of the State Nursing Education Committee of the Georgia Heart Association. Janice enjoyed speaking and was the Commencement Speaker at the Augusta Technical Institute, several Georgia Heart State meetings, and spoke at one National Heart Association meeting for the Nursing Division.
Janice assisted in creating the Cardiac First Aid Station at the Augusta National and worked there for several years during the Masters Tournament. She was an original member of the committee for CPR in Richmond County.
She was at one time, Clinical Nurse Coordinator for the Augusta Area Cardiovascular Facility, based at University Hospital with the Program Director being Dr. Paul Cundey, Jr. The program's goal was educational outreach for Cardiovascular Intensive Care in small Regional Hospitals. The program ended when Federal funds were withdrawn by Congress. Following cessation of the program she went to the Medical College of Georgia, Talmadge Memorial Hospital to serve in roles as Inservice Educational Instructor for Adult Intensive Care Units and outreach cardiovascular nurse instructor for small regional hospitals.
She was employed by Dr. Paul Cundey, Jr., as his Clinical Assistant. Some of her duties included patient evaluation, patient education, cardiac catheter data calculations, and echocardiography.
Moving away from Augusta she was employed by Stephens County hospital as a Cardiovascular Resource Nurse and Cardiac Sonographer. In addition, she assisted several cardiologists as a Cardiac Echocardiographic Resource Sonographer.
Working at the Harry Harper School of Cardiovascular Technology, she was introduced to and expanded on her computer skills in education. Later she was employed by the School of Allied Health Science in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program as an Educational Specialist in Echocardiography.
Janice also loved to write, having been co-author of several clinical publications, and single author of an audio review entitled"Dilated Cardiomyopathies." She also created "Winks Greeting Cards", which were specialty humorous cards that were sold in several gift shops as well as online.
Retiring from the Nursing and Echocardiography field Ms. Anderson continued with her love of computer technology refurbishing old photos, delving into genealogy, cheering on the Carolina Gamecocks, and enjoying her family.
