Mary Townes Greene Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Townes Greene, a cherished member of the Aiken community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19th, 2024. Mrs. Greene was born on Saturday, May 8th, 1948, in Aiken, South Carolina a daughter of the late George Anderson Townes, Jr. & Dorothy Prontaut Townes Weeks. Mary dedicated her life to guiding and mentoring young minds as a devoted Guidance Counselor at South Aiken High School. Mary spent her career nurturing and encouraging the dreams of the students she worked with, leaving a lasting impact on generations of families within the community. Her compassion and commitment to her students were the hallmarks of her career. She is survived by two daughters who was always there to take care of the needs of their mother, Elizabeth Anne Greene & Stephanie Townes Greene Duffy, both of Westlake, Ohio; 2 brothers, Paul Townes & George Anderson "Butch" Townes, III; a sister, Dorothy Lineberger and the 2 loves of her life, her two grandsons, Bryant Duffy & Declan Duffy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Townes. In sincere gratitude for her blessed life, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Augusta at 3500 Walton Way Ext, Augusta, GA 30909, or online at https://discoverfbc.org/. This gesture reflects Mary's immense faith and dedication to giving back. Mary Elizabeth Townes Greene will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her loving spirit and dedication to helping others will forever be remembered in the hearts of those she touched.
