Mary Raney Obituary

Mrs. Mary Stroud Raney, 90, of Walterboro, SC, a longtime resident of Aiken, SC, entered into rest Tuesday evening, June 13, 2023, at Pruitthealth-Walterboro. She was the wife of the late Meredith Trotter Raney, Sr.
Born June 15, 1932, in Walterboro, SC, she was a daughter of the late Carl M. Stroud, Sr. and the late Letha Ulmer Stroud. She received a master's degree from the University of South Carolina. She taught high school in the greater Columbia area before moving to Aiken where she worked at the Savannah River Site. She also taught college courses at night at the University of South Carolina Aiken. She made Walterboro her home following the death of her husband and was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church in Walterboro.
Surviving are her sister, Betty Stroud Polk and her husband Dr. Hershel Polk of Walterboro; a brother, Carl M. "Bucky" Stroud, Sr. and his wife Sylvia Stroud; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Breland Stroud. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews as well as her late husband's children and family. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Boswell Stroud.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, from the graveside at Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro. Arrangements by The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Homes and Crematory Walterboro Chapel. www.briceherndonfuneralhome.com.
