Mary Harris Obituary

Mary Harris
AIKEN - Mary Toole Harris, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, of Aiken, SC, died on Dec. 30, 2024. She was 90 years old. She devoted her life to her family and faith, leaving a legacy of unwavering commitment to those she held dear.
Mary's family will greet friends on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC. A celebration of Mary's life will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with interment to be held privately at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Graniteville, SC.
Mary and her devoted husband of 62 years, Glenn E. Harris, raised three children, Michael Harris, Terri Cox (George) and Gerri Harris. They also cherished their four grandchildren, Dalton Cox, Marshall Cox, Austin Kyles and Garrett Kyles (Katelyn), and their great-grandchild, Karter Kyles.
Born in Beech Island, SC, Mary was the daughter of the late Oliver Wray Toole and Bennie Helen Ross Hankinson Toole. She grew up in a close-knit family with many siblings, whom she cherished throughout her life. She is survived by her sister, Ellen Galloway, and her brother, Nathaniel Ross Toole. Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Byrdie Roberts, Charles Toole, Benjamin Ralph Toole, Rodney Toole and Sarah "Pat" Conley.
Mary retired from the Savannah River Site's finance department after more than 35 years of service. In retirement, she continued her lifelong devotion to service and faith as an active member of Pine Forest Baptist Church in Warrenville, SC, where she served as the church secretary for nearly a decade. In lieu of flowers, Mary's family suggests donations be made to Pine Forest Baptist Church in her memory.
Known for her kindness, strength and determination, Mary will be remembered for the invaluable lessons she imparted to her family and loved ones-lessons of perseverance, service and the importance of caring for others.

Every time I think of Mary I smile. She had a tough exterior at work. Once you got to know her, she had a heart of hold. She was smart and funny and kept us on our toes! Prayers for comfort and peace to all of her family & friends!
