Martha Rucker Obituary

Martha Lominick
Dixon Rucker
NEWBERRY, SC - Martha Lominick Dixon Rucker, 84, widow of Marvin J. Rucker, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Springfield Place.
Born on July 15, 1931, in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late James Richard, Sr. and Mary Martha Hickson Lominick.
A 1949 graduate of Newberry High School, Mrs. Rucker furthered her education by graduating from Newberry College and later received her Masters in Library Science from the University of South Carolina. She was a teacher, a librarian, and a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was active in her community and a retired librarian at Newberry High School. She was an avid traveler and had the distinct pleasure of visiting every state in the contingent United States with Marvin Rucker, her beloved husband of 33 years. She also very much enjoyed playing the game of bridge with her good friends, too many to be listed. She was secretary of Friends of the Newberry County Library. She was a retired treasurer of Newberry County Retired Educators Association; treasurer of the Literary Study Club; and served as chairperson of Circle One at Central United Methodist Church. She was also awarded the Silver Sister award in recognition of twenty five years membership in Alpha Delta Kappa sorority.
Surviving are daughters, Beth Fulmer and husband, Fred, of Simpsonville and Angie Bardin of Chapin. She is also survived by two sisters, Sara "Beezy" Looney and Cindy Snell, and a brother, Richard Lominick, Jr. She had five grandchildren, Jacob Fulmer, Angela Disque, Clayton Fulmer, Jill Christmus, and Tripp Bardin. Additionally, she had seven great-grandchildren, Tyson Fulmer, Cooper Disque, Alice Fulmer, Mariah Disque, Blair Fulmer, Charlie Fulmer and Anna Louise Christmus.
Mrs. Rucker was predeceased by a son-in-law, Thomas Bardin.
The family thanks Springfield Place for the loving care that the caregivers gave Mrs. Rucker during her final years of life.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 5, 2016, from 1:30 pm- 2:30 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Rucker loved the beauty of flowers but was also a dedicated supporter of the Newberry County Public Library; therefore, either flowers or memorials to the Hal Kohn Memorial Library (1100 Friend Street, Newberry, SC 29108) would be welcome and appreciated.

My deepest condolences to the family during this most difficult time. There are no words that can ease the pain of losing someone so beloved. May you find comfort and peace in knowing that your loved one is in God's memory, because those who pass on are precious in his eyes. Psalms 116:15
