Margaret Gantt Obituary

Margaret Brown Gantt, lovingly known to all as "Dolly," graced this world with her presence on August 31, 1948, in Aiken County, South Carolina. She departed from us on May 31, 2025, leaving a legacy woven with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Born the youngest of 17 children to the late Gus and Marion Reid Brown, Margaret was a shining light in a bustling household steeped in warmth and affection. Growing up in Wagener, South Carolina, she embraced her large family, where her joyful spirit began to bloom. At the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, which she joined at a young age, Margaret nurtured her faith and established lifelong friendships, remaining a devoted member for decades. Her early education in the Aiken County Public Schools laid the foundation for a life filled with passion and drive. An athlete at heart, Margaret was celebrated as a "star" basketball player at Sardis Elementary and A.L. Corbett High, showcasing her competitive spirit and determination.
During her journey through life, Margaret met Frank Gantt, the love of her life. Their union blossomed into a beautiful family, where they worked side by side to create a home filled with joy and warmth. Together, they welcomed family and friends into their lives, hosting cherished gatherings that resonated with laughter, love, and the delicious aroma of home-cooked meals. For Margaret, there was no greater joy than sharing moments with those she loved, and her open invitations for cookouts and Sunday dinners became a beloved tradition. After dedicating 33 years to Owens Corning Fiberglass, where she cultivated lifelong friendships and created lasting memories, Margaret retired on February 24, 2004. Her impact extended far beyond her workplace; she generously poured her heart into everyone she encountered, but her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. The transition from "Mama" to "Granny" brought her immeasurable joy, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandson Colin, showering him with love and affection after school. Margaret's remarkable legacy continues through her beloved children, Martha Gantt-Golson (Eddie), Vicky Gantt, Frank Gantt Jr. (Lauren), and DeMarcus Staley. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Yvonne Briggs (James), and a cherished sister-in-law, Marian Brown, all of Aiken, SC. Additionally, she leaves behind her special niece, Rosetta Issac-Green; her godson, Vannie Brown; two devoted sisters-in-law from Augusta, GA; five loyal sisters-in-law from Aiken, SC; one devoted brother-in-law from Augusta, GA; and six devoted brothers-in-law from Aiken, SC. Margaret is also remembered by faithful family members and a host of relatives and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and spirit. Margaret's grandchildren, Master Colin Gantt, Frank Gantt III, Eric Jefferson, and Premier "Pre" Gantt, will carry forward the love and lessons she instilled. Her exceptional bond with her family created a tapestry of cherished memories that will forever be remembered. Margaret is reunited in spirit with her beloved husband, Frank Gantt Sr., and her cherished daughter, Christi F. Gantt, as well as her ten brothers and five sisters, all of whom she held dear. As we gather to honor, Matriarch Margaret Brown Gantt's life, let us cherish the remarkable legacy of love she leaves behind. Her indomitable spirit, radiant smile, and loving embrace will forever be etched in our hearts. May we carry her memory with us, honoring her life by sharing love and kindness in our lives, just as she did.
