Margaret Fitch Obituary

Margaret Fitch
AIKEN - Dr. Margaret "Peggy" Holloway Fitch, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and physician, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on April 17, 1951, in Augusta, Georgia, to Margaret Evans Holloway and Murphy McNeill Holloway, Jr., Peggy lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with energy and humor.
Peggy attended Sweet Briar College before graduating from the University of Georgia. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed her Dermatology residency, serving as Chief Resident. She founded and served as the Medical Director of Aiken Dermatology and Skin Cancer Clinic for over 40 years, providing expert care to thousands of patients throughout the CSRA. Peggy's contributions to her field were recognized with numerous honors, including Physician of the Year and Woman of the Year for Aiken County, and she was named one of the CSRA's Best Doctors by Augusta Magazine. Her children fondly recall the many impromptu skin screenings she conducted while out and about-whether in grocery store lines, while pumping gas, at movie theaters, walking in the mall, or at dinner parties. One of the most memorable was a screening of President Bill Clinton while standing in a reception line during a visit to Washington, D.C.
Peggy was known for her big personality and zest for life. She loved vacationing at the Rock House, listening to beach music, dancing-especially on tables-and she cherished a great party. She delighted in attending special events, hosting holiday gatherings, and finding any excuse to dress up. Her Halloween costumes were legendary, a big hit with both her children and patients. Her vibrant sense of humor, often highlighted by a dirty joke, could put a nervous patient at ease or charm a room. Affectionately called "Doc" and "Mustang" by her friends, Peggy had a spirit that couldn't be tamed. She was an avid traveler, exploring the world with adventure and curiosity. Peggy lived a life filled with laughter and she treasured moments with family and friends.
Deeply involved in her community, Peggy donated both her time and treasures to the CSRA. She served on the boards of the Augusta Symphony, Friends of the Aiken Symphony (formerly the Aiken Symphony Guild), Augusta Ballet, Green Boundary Club, and the Morris Museum of Art. Peggy established the Murphy M. Holloway, Jr. Foundation and the Symphony in the Schools outreach program, bringing music and arts education to local schools for over 20 years.
Peggy and the late Paul Vencil Fitch II were married for 25 years and remained connected through their shared love for their family. She is survived by her brother, Murphy McNeill Holloway III, and her children: son Brannon E. Fitch and his wife Charissa T. Fitch, son Hollis M. Fitch and his wife Abby M. Fitch, and daughter Margaret Kendall Fitch Bailey and her husband Jonathan Bailey. She was a proud grandmother, affectionately called "Gram" by her grandchildren: Harper Fitch, Collier Fitch, Henry Fitch, Eleanor Fitch, John "Jack"; Fitch, Margot Bailey, and William Bailey.
Known for her unforgettable spirit, Peggy will be remembered for the joy she brought into every room, her love of dancing, and her ability to make people laugh. In keeping with her love for celebrating the holidays, a celebration of Peggy's life will be held on Saturday, December 14th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Green Boundary Club in Aiken, SC. All friends and family wishing to celebrate her life are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aiken Symphony Orchestra (www.aikensymphony.com).

One of the best physician I had the privilege to work with! Never a dull moment when she was around! She will be missed!

I had the best time with her way back in 1991. She did a biopsy on my nose with what looked to me like a staple remover. At that time we became " up close and personal" so we both had a good laugh with that one . My heart hurts for the family, my mind remembers the Angel who we got the pleasure of being around her.

Dr. Fitch, affectionately known as "Peggy," took care of my father W.C. Jackson, Jr. and his second wife, my stepmother Dorothy Davis Jackson. Her dedication to her profession was second to none, and she will be missed by so many. Peggy was larger than life itself, and she was always there for me in good times and bad. More than a doctor, also a dear friend. My love and prayers go out to her children and grandchildren.
