MAJOR McGINLEY Obituary

Art McGinley and I were Officer Candidates together in 1967. He was admired and respected by all who trained with him during the grueling 12 weeks we spent together, all of us were saddened by his death. He was a fine officer of Marines, and great leader.

Mr. McGinley is one of my favorite Marine heroes and my life is so much richer having known him. Thank you, Sir, for your service to this great nation, and thank you, McGinley Family for your service, as well. God Bless you, Mr. McGinley, and God bless your family.

A great Marine, a good friend, farewell, brother, until we meet again.

As a member of the U.S.M.C. Basic School Class of 5-68, we remember you as a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and professional officer that selflessly shared his experiences and insight with as many shipmates as possible. We recognize you for your many accomplishments since your career in the Marine Corps ended. Well done! R.I.P., Art.

I was not close to Art while in the Corps. It has only been in the last several years that we have connected and he has been a much appreciated email friend. I have been able to talk to him about things that i needed to know and have gotten great answers to my questions. I am going to miss him greatly. I know that when I arrive in Heaven that I will be met by Art. I have East Tenn. in my back ground and he was a help to me in that regard.

Art and I were Platoonmates at TBS and I was always amazed how an "old guy" like Art always was able to hang right with us youngsters. He was always willing to help when something fronm his experience was needed by us boot LTs and all who knew Art wil miss him,

The Pearly Gates will be a little more secure and squared away now. Art was in my OCS Platoon. To many like myself, fresh out of college with no Marine experience, having an experienced SNCO and former Drill Instructor in the platoon was a special gift. He was a mentor to all of us. I distinctly remember the first time he had the billet to call cadence. Whoa! Who is that?, What the….? He was an accomplished Marine in many aspects but i'll always warmly remember how he took the time to patiently mentor us raw candidates.

Art McGinley was one of those unique people you meet in life who stood head and shoulders above the average...he was a bigger than life Marine's Marine...a shining example of being the best he could be, and an inspiration to others to become even better...SEMPER FI...Quinton D. Dr. McGinley was "above it all"!! My wife and I loved him and respected him as the true Marine he is. I know he is now in heaven giving marching orders to all the other angels walking around out of step. Our love and prayers also go to Jane and the other family members. God's Peace always. I went through OCS and Basic Schoolwith Art in Quantico. As a former enlisted SNCO who had been to Vietnam already I was one of the fresh faced college kids that looked up to him. He was a highly accomplished, smart, very dedicated person and a role model as a Marine. I am sad to see his leaving us.

Although our friendship was brief, I was blessed to have been able to learn from him and develop a deep friendship I will cherish for ever. My heart and prayers are with his family.

A great mentor, teacher, man, and friend. A true role model and one of my heroes. You will be missed. Rest well my Brother. May Peace be with Jane and your family.

Major McGinley conducted himself as a Marine right up to the last time I saw him as he made a presentation to Knox County Commission. We will miss such men.

Dr. McGinley was the perfect Mason . A perfectionist in the ceremonies and degree work, an articulate orator, a brilliant teacher, and lover of his country. He will be sorely missed.
