Lydia Bates Obituary

Mrs. Lydia P. Bates
Graniteville - Mrs. Lydia P. Bates, 77, entered into rest on November 23, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Louise Whittle Polatty, her beloved companion, Wayne Durden, her sister Beverly, and her niece Cindy Freeman.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC 29829. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at noon in the funeral home chapel, with Pastors David Gallimore and Pennye Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Thomas Bates, Jackson Bates, Nick Arico, Rusty Barton, Buddy Enlow, and Jamie Parker will be pallbearers.
Mrs. Bates was born in Aiken County, SC. She worked for Graniteville Company and retired from the Savannah River Site in 2022. She was a member of Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene and their Prime Timers Sunday School Class. Mrs. Lydia enjoyed NASCAR, cruises, trips to the mountains, and traveling in general, but she especially loved spending time with her beloved family.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Charles H. Bates (Martha), of Trenton, SC, and Doug Durden (Denise), of Graniteville, SC; her sister, Brenda Morgan (Don), of Graniteville, SC; grandchildren, Thomas C. Bates, Jackson Bates, Amanda Bates, Randee Durden, and Ryleigh Durden; great-grandchildren, Emilia Bates and Ada Bates and a niece, Beverly Wilson, of Virginia.

My name is Frankie Easterby, a cousin to Wayne Durden. I knew Lydia through Wayne. I did not know of her death until today 11/29/24. She was a wonderful lady and I am so sorry I didn´t get to pay my respects. My Condolences to the family.
