LULA WINEGAR Obituary

WINEGAR, LULA MAE MYERS - age 90, of Fountain City and Clinton, Tennessee, passed away on June 17, 2014. Mrs. Winegar was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Robert H. Winegar (US Army Ret.); parents, John C. and Lula Crane Myers of Knoxville; and brothers Carl, Emory, and Herman Myers. Mrs. Winegar is survived by her daughter, Judy Winegar Goans and son-in-law Ronald E. Goans, M.D. of Clinton; daughter, Elizabeth Winegar Hardin and son-in-law Dr. David Hardin of Midlothian, VA; grandsons, Robert H. Goans, Ronald E. Goans, Jr., and Luke W. Hardin; sisters-in-law, Mary Winegar Petree of Knoxville, and Lucy Wininger Hiatt and husband James of Tallahassee; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her devoted caregiver, Teresa King. Mrs. Winegar was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1943 and the University of Tennessee. She performed war-critical work as a telephone operator during World War II, and later served as an elementary school teacher, photographer, and community volunteer in adult literacy programs. She was a long-time member of Fountain City United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Christian Fellowship Class and United Methodist Women. Her favorite charities are Wesley House Community Center, Fountain City United Methodist Church's Backyard Missions program, and Martha's Kitchen at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 20th, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Fountain City United Methodist Church, with the funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. The graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, June 21st, at 12:00 noon at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
