Lou Baranello Obituary

Lou Baranello
AIKEN, SC - Lou Baranello passed away at his home in Aiken on January 13, 2015 at age 81.
He first came to Aiken at the age of 14 by running away from home and hopping on a boxcar to get to the Aiken Training Track. He loved horses and being a jockey more than anything. His experience on the track ranged from starting out walking hots to being an exercise rider, a race rider and trainer. After retiring from riding he held various positions as a racing official, from patrol judge to steward and assistant racing secretary. In recent years his passion was writing commentaries about ethics in the Horse Racing industry that he so dearly loved. He was still riding for pleasure on occasion into his late seventies.
He leaves behind his wife Barbara in Aiken, daughter Elaine Little of Meadows of Dan, VA, son Lou Baranello III in Portland, OR and four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

I am so sorry Elaine for your loss. I did not know your father but we have horses and racing in common. I know I would have enjoyed knowing him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
