Lori Schimm Obituary
With Great Sorrow and Never-Ending Love To My Dear Wife, Lori Jean Schimm
With deep sadness, we mourn the loss of Lori Jean Schimm originally from Napa, CA and recent resident of Gold Canyon, Arizona in 2023.
Lori was born in San Francisco on February 17, 1959. Lori grew up in Corte Madera and attended Marin Catholic and Redwood High School. Lori also attended USF College in San Francisco but later left her schooling to pursue a career in printing at Fong Brothers Printing in Brisbane, CA. That's where Lori met her future husband and "swan," Randy, who needed business cards and other printed materials for his business. Randy was introduced to Lori as his salesperson contact and fell madly in love with her at first sight. After they met, they talked for hours but seemed like minutes. Randy could not stop thinking about her.
As time went on, Lori and Randy began dating in October of 1980 and were married in a beautiful tiny chapel at the Highlands Inn in Carmel, CA in November of 1981 on a cool rainy evening. Lori always said it was good luck. They always referred to Carmel as their "finish line" over the years.
In their newlywed years, Lori and Randy moved to San Francisco in a beautiful Victorian apartment on Fulton St, right across from Golden Gate Park. They both were so in love and spent many evenings dining throughout San Francisco at various cultural restaurants as they both enjoyed great food and frequenting comedy clubs around San Francisco. They also enjoyed boating on the San Francisco bay.
Lori and Randy proudly welcomed the birth of their first daughter Samantha in 1984. After living in Brisbane for several years, Lori set out to find the perfect home to raise their new family while Randy worked. In 1987, Lori found a newer home on Linden St in Napa that just needed some love by them, so they purchased the property, fixed it up and began raising their family there. They welcomed their second daughter Ariele in 1989. They sold their first home on Linden St in 1991 and moved to Browns Valley on Twin Oaks Drive where they loved being so close to the Carneros Region and surrounding vineyards. They called it home as it slowly grew roots from raising their daughters there and their many Newfoundland doggies over the years. They enjoyed making wood fired pizzas in their stone pizza oven and entertaining guests. Lori loved cooking in her beautiful gourmet kitchen built by Randy. She was a great cook.
Lori also helped and supported both their daughters, Samantha and Ariele, pursue their dreams. In 2003, Lori accompanied Samantha to Estonia in a European blizzard winter where Samantha enrolled in in college to obtain her bachelor's degree. Lori also supported Ariele in joining the Navy in 2007 where she graduated at the Great Lakes Naval Academy and eventually assigned to CVN 68, the Nimitz Aircraft Carrier in San Diego, and was assigned to the Admiral's Staff as an Operation's Specialist.
Lori worked for the Napa County Personnel Department from 1988 until she transferred to the Information Technology Department in early 2000 until she retired in 2019. She loved her job and co-workers at the Napa County ITS Department and they were fond of her.
Lori and Randy also loved traveling and in 2016, made their first of several trips to the Holy Land in Israel to attend Ariele's wedding in Tzfat, Israel. It was the trip of a lifetime where they drove freely throughout Israel and visited many historical sites. They also traveled to Bremen, Germany in 2008 to attend Samantha's wedding.
Lori's hobbies included raising their giant breed Newfies, furniture shopping at consignment stores and baking sourdough french bread.
Lori and Randy purchased their retirement home in Gold Canyon, Arizona in 2021 and looked forward to living their retirement lives in the desert at the base of the Superstition Mountains. They felt it was a different kind of beauty. They enjoyed many beautiful evenings on their viewing deck sometimes with neighbors watching sunsets and staring at the Superstition Mountains while sharing a glass of wine or champagne by the fire pit.
Sadly, in June of 2021, Lori was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer but that didn't stop her from doing anything she wanted to do. Lori never complained about being stricken with cancer, she just was determined to beat it with her positive attitude and the help of her medical teams and moral support from Randy. Lori fought a courageous battle for almost three years with her husband, best friend, and home nurse Randy by her side. Lori was such a great patient and made caring for her one of the most beautiful gifts Randy, who is a cancer survivor from 1992, could ever experience. In May of 2024, Lori's condition took a turn for the worst and Randy said goodbye to his "swan" and life partner of 43 years on the morning of May 29, 2024. Lori passed peacefully at home with her devoted home nurse and best friend and "swan," Randy, and her French Bulldog Grayson by her side.
For those that have had the pleasure to know Lori over the years, she was the kindest, sweetest, loving person who was so selfless. Her family misses her beautiful, sweet smile and warm sense of humor and will cherish every moment they all shared together with her. She will always be in my heart forever and in the hearts of her friends, her two daughters, Samantha and Ariele, as well as her nine beautiful grandchildren and her two sisters. Lori leaves behind her "swan" Randy, daughters Samantha and Ariele, sisters Karen and Lora, Grandchildren Mina, Avi, Eliyahoo, Yehuda, Sara, Kalman, Chaiya, Netzach and Nava, niece Lorian and nephew T.J.
May God keep our angel wrapped safe in His arms waiting for her swan, Randy, to be together again in eternal life.
My Lori, My Love Forever, 11-21-81.
There will be a celebration of life held in October and November to honor the life of Lori in Napa and Gold Canyon, Arizona.
