Leonard Yaun Obituary

Leonard "Len" Yaun, Jr.
Aiken - Mr. Leonard Alvin Yaun, Jr., 86, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at home after a short illness.
Len, a lifelong resident of Aiken, was born in Augusta, Georgia, a son of the late Leonard A. Yaun, Sr. and Sallie Mae Seago Yaun. He lived in Aiken his entire life except for one year in Panama City, Florida, in 1944, and in Jacksonville, Florida, for five years as the golf pro at Deerwood Golf Club. He returned to Aiken as the golf pro at Highland Park Country Club. Eventually he went to work with Bob Penland to develop Houndslake Country Club, and later worked as a residential and commercial realtor.
His love of golf began at Aiken High as a member of the golf team at age 15, winning the SC High School Golf Championship in 1952. He also played Aiken High football for four years before attending Clemson University on a golf scholarship, graduating in 1956. During his college career, he became the first Clemson golfer to play in the NCAA finals, and won the S.C. Collegiate Golf Championship in 1953 and 1956. He was a member of the Tiger Letterwinner's Association (Block C Club). He later won the Palmetto Amateur in 1976, 1979, and 1982. Len was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Aiken.
Len is survived by his loving wife, Martha Graham Yaun; a daughter, Julia (Jeff) May, Aiken; two sons, Edward (Rita) Yaun, Kissimmee, FL, and Greg Yaun, Clearwater, SC; stepchildren Ashleigh Morris (David Lawrence) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Tripp (Heather) Morris, of Appling, GA; three grandchildren, Christopher Yaun, Benjamin Yaun, and Kaitlin Adams Bolen; five step-grandchildren, Erin Lawrence, Ryan Lawrence, B.A. Morris, Samantha Morris, and Haley O'Neal Burton of Jupiter, Florida; a brother, Andrew Yaun; niece, Julie (Edward) Couch; and nephews Lloyd (Mary Pat) Yaun and David Turner.
In addition to his parents, Len was preceded in death by his first wife, Kay Kennedy Yaun; a son, Leonard Kennedy "Ken" Yaun; and a sister, Jewell Turner.
Due to Covid protocols, a private graveside service will be held in Bethany Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Aiken's First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3157, Aiken, SC 29802.

Deeply sadden to learn of Len's death. I would like for the family
to know that they are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was a classmate of Len's at Aiken High School, class of 1952.
