Mr. Larry David Cunningham
"Retired Bath Fire Chief"
BATH, SC - Mr. Larry David Cunningham, 78, husband of Mrs. Carolyn Roberson Cunningham, formerly of Minter Street, Bath, SC, peacefully entered into rest on Father's Day, June 15th, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Finley Cunningham.
Surviving with his wife Carolyn are two sons, Eddie Cunningham, Martinez, GA and Glen Cunningham (Annette), Aiken, SC; five grandchildren: Larry Cunningham, Cara Cunningham, Jason Cunningham, Wesley Morse and Kate Pendleton; 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Mr. Cunningham was born in Bath, SC to the late Clarence Buck and Lucille Strong Cunningham.
He was a retired Millwright with Olin Chemical Co. with fifteen years of service. Chief Cunningham was the Bath Fire Chief for thirty years with a total of fifty years of volunteer fire service. The Bath Firehouse, "D. Cunningham Building", is named in his honor.
He was a member of Bath First Baptist Church and their Men's Bible Class, the Horse Creek Masonic Lodge #174 AFM, the Augusta Shrine Club and the Carpenter's Millwrights Local Union, #283, Augusta, GA.
A Fireman's Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 3 o'clock in Bath First Baptist Church with Revs. Herb Sons and Roland Smith Officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC.
Pallbearers will be Billy Kight, Donnie Hamrick, David DuBose, Sherriff Michael Hunt, Bryan Cunningham, Hector Rodriguez and Joe Doolittle. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Bath Fire Department.
The family would like to thank the staff of National Healthcare, North Augusta for the excellent care given to Mr. Cunningham.
Friends may call at the residence of his son, Eddie Cunningham, 3638 Westwood Drive, Martinez, GA or on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at the Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, US Hwy. No. 1, Langley, SC.
