Kathleen Smith Obituary

Mrs. Kathleen Hattaway Brooks Smith, 88, of North Augusta, SC, entered into rest peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Mrs Smith was born in rural Glascock County, GA; she was the eldest daughter of the late Ernest L. and Lila Cheely Hattaway. After residing in Florida for many years, she returned to the area and had been a resident since 1972. She retired from Kimberly Clark Corporation, where she worked as a Machine Operator. Miss Kathleen was a long-time member of Clearwater First Baptist Church; she was formerly active in the Swinging Sixties Sunday School Class. She enjoyed reading (especially her Bible), gardening, and working on crossword puzzles; however, nothing made her any happier than spending time with her family. Mrs Smith was the Matriarch of her family, the glue that held things together. She was known for her many acts of kindness. She was the family historian, always remembering everyone's birthday, anniversary, and other important events for which she sent personal, hand-written cards. Miss Kathleen is loved, and her memory will remain eternal in the hearts of many: her children, Sylvia Joyce "Rhodie" (Harold) Green, Pamela Ann (Charles Grove) Brooks, David L. Brooks, Patricia (Curtis) Dukes, and Nancy Brooks; a sister, Bernice Hattaway Rogers; a beloved nephew Richard (Danelle) Brooks; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Max L. Brooks and Elwin R. Smith and her brother, George Hattaway. The family will greet friends on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Clearwater First Baptist Church in Clearwater, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church; Pastor Bear Grant will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Mark Brooks, Max Brooks, Scott Brooks, Chace Cartwright, Christian Videtto, and Michael Videtto. Memorials in memory of Miss Kathleen may be given to the Augusta Ronald McDonald House.
