Joseph Marvin Obituary

Joseph David Marvin, Jr.
AIKEN, SC - Mr. Joseph David "Dave" Marvin, Jr., 82, of Aiken, SC, husband of the late Barbara Reeves Marvin, entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
Born in Aiken County, SC, he was the son of Joseph David Marvin, Sr. and Lydia Speights Marvin. He was a graduate of Aiken High School.
Following his graduation from Aiken High, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was sent to Parris Island for eight weeks where he earned the title of United States Marine.
Upon his honorable discharge, he went to work with Delta Airlines in Columbia, SC, where he met his soon to be wife, Barbara. He was later transferred to Atlanta, GA, where they raised their two children. He retired from Delta in 2001 after thirty-five years.
Dave and Barbara returned home to Aiken, SC, in 2001, to care for Dave's parents.
Upon relocating to Aiken, Dave became a very active member of the Marine Corps League, Detachment #939. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #26. Dave volunteered countless hours to the community. Dave enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes, and spending time with friends and family.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lydia Marvin, his wife, Bobbie, and his sister, Becky. He is loved, and his memory will remain eternal in the hearts of his family. Son, David Lee (Chinla) Marvin, daughter, Laura (Ray) Norton, siblings, Louisa (Rick) Benton, Sara Joy, and Edgar "Ed" (Amanita) Marvin, grandchildren, Jacob Norton, Joseph Norton, and John Norton. Chris Marvin, John Marvin, Brannon Marvin, Alyssa Marvin, and Rayna Marvin, as well as other family members, friends, his fellow marines and legionnaires.
Friends will be greeted by the family on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 1-2 PM at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2 PM in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Joe's brother, Ed Marvin and his dear friend, Mack Hanna will officiate. The interment of Dave and Barbara's cremated remains will follow in the Historic Graniteville Cemetery, Graniteville, SC. Veterans Honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Memorials in Dave's Honor may be made to the Aiken Marine Corps League (www.aikenmc1939.org) or the American Legion Post # 26 (www.legionpost26aikensc.com)
