Joseph Buggy Obituary

Joseph J. Buggy, Jr.
Aiken - Joseph J. Buggy, Jr., 77, beloved husband of Catherine M. Kelly Buggy, died on August 19, 2018 at his home. Joe was born in Lansdowne, PA on July 25, 1941 and was the son of Joseph John and Mary Gertrude Harvey Buggy.
Joe graduated from Villanova University with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1963. He served as a lieutenant in the U. S. Nuclear Submarine Program from 1963 to 1967 and then joined the Westinghouse Company as an engineer in the former Advanced Reactor Division. He then transferred to the Westinghouse Advanced Energy Systems Division in 1977. In 1988, he became vice president and deputy manager of West Valley Nuclear Services company. Just three years later, he was named president and general manager of the company and was responsible for all aspects of management and operations. Joe was then appointed executive vice president of the Westinghouse Savannah River Company in 1991, and then became president in September 1999. He retired from Westinghouse in 2001.
Joe was active in the United Way of Aiken County, was a member of the Aiken County Commission for Technical and Comprehensive Education and has advised the City of Aiken on strategic planning. He also served on the executive council of the Energy Facility Contractors Group. He was a member of Aiken Technical College Governing Board and United Way's De Toqueville Society. He and his wife Kay fully funded a Habitat for Humanity home and are proud supporters of Children's Place. He was an avid hunter and a conservationist and a member of St. Mary's Help of Christians Church in Aiken.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Kay; his daughter, Colleen Evans (Colin) of Upper Arlington, OH; his son, Joseph J. Buggy, III (Anne) of Mountain View, CA; three grandchildren, Ryan Evans, Mika Buggy and Maria Buggy.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Aiken Habitat for Humanity (www.habitataiken.org) or Children's Place (www.childrensplaceinc.org).

Kay and family,

I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I worked for Joe at Savannah River and he was an amazing leader and I learned so much from him. May God's grace and peace be with you all. Remember he was truly one of the best!

Dear Kay, I am sorry to hear Mr. Buggy's death and have many fond memories of him. I worked in the same office with him when he came to SRS where all of us appreciated his contributions to the company. Sympathy to you and the family.
