John Denero Obituary

John Victor Denero
AIKEN - John Victor Denero, 86, peacefully entered into rest Sunday, February 4, 2018 at his home in Aiken, SC. A Requiem mass will be held at the Old St. Mary Help of Christians Church (Park Avenue) on Saturday, February 10 at 1:00 pm. Family will receive friends at the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, on Friday, February 9 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial will be private.
John was born November 19, 1931, in Syracuse, NY to the late John Vito and Sarah Mary Wisniewski Denero. He graduated from East Syracuse High School in 1949 and from Alfred University in 1953 as a ceramic engineer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corp and served as a research scientist at Operation Deep Freeze II in Little America, Antarctica, 1956-57. He worked in the nuclear industry as an engineer at Babcock and Wilcox in Ohio, Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pennsylvania, and West Valley Demonstration Project in New York. John transferred to Aiken in 1988 after accepting a position at the Savannah River Site. After retiring, he continued as a consultant with the Parsons Corporation.
John was passionate about volunteering and helping local community organizations wherever he was located, whether it was calling numbers at bingo, flipping pancakes and making hoagies for church fundraisers, hiking with local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, and organizing fun and game activities for the clients at the Tri-Development Center. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, and relaxing at Fripp Island. He will be most fondly remembered for serenading family and friends with his ukelele.
Mr. Denero is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Delores Mae Estock Denero; daughters, Pamela Amendola and her husband Salvatore of Aiken; Sandra Weaver and her husband Steven of Summerville, GA; Linda Nasol and her husband Antonio of Aiken; Sarah Stegall of Buford, GA; grandsons Alexander Kaminski, Christopher Nasol, David Nasol; his sister Paulette Brandt, Inverness, FL, and brother Richard Denero, Fultonville, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John A. Denero; grandson, William Kaminski, Jr.; brothers, Walter Denero and Robert Denero.
