Joanne Folk Barker
WILLISTON, SC - Funeral services for Joanne Folk Barker, 81 of Williston, SC will be held eleven a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with Dr. Beth Yarborough and Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating; burial will be in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Joanne passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at her home.
She was born in Williston, SC on May 4, 1934, a daughter of the late John Cecil Folk, Sr. and Lois Hodges Folk and was married to the late Leo Barker of Rome, GA. Joanne was a 1952 graduate of Williston-Elko High School and a 1956 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Columbia where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Social Society. Joanne loved teaching, for 34 years, where she taught in the Aiken, Allendale, Anderson and Barnwell county area school systems. Joanne was a bridge enthusiast who enjoyed playing and teaching others; through the years she has been a member of a number of bridge clubs. She formerly taught Sunday School and was the assistant organist in Allendale and Anderson. She was a member of the Williston Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Women's Circle.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna N. Godbee (Dennis) of Aiken, a son, Henry Neal (Heather), Chambers Jr. of Barnwell; sister, Joyce F. Hollingsworth of Rome, GA; brother, John Cecil Folk, Jr. of McCormick, SC; grandchildren, Nealie Anne (Chris) Morgan, Clayton D. Godbee, Tommy Chambers, Emma Grace Chambers; several step-children; nieces, nephews and her devoted caretaker, Diane Childs. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Hodges Folk Williams.
