Joan McGinty Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan G McGinty, 90, of Aiken, South Carolina, on August 29th, 2025. Born in Cambria, Pennsylvania, Joan was the daughter of Jane E Novak and Vincent G Orlosky. She spent most of her early life in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and over 20 years in Aiken. She was a devout Catholic, who served the church as a pastoral associate. During this time, she was inseparable from her two friends and colleagues, Father Ernest Hepner and Sister Josephine Jendrisak, who passed away several years prior. Joan, also known to many family members as "Aunt Jo," was famous for baking kolaczki, a type of Polish/Slovak pastry with a flaky outside and walnut/cherry filling. The fragrant smell would often fill her house on weekend afternoons, warming the hearts of anyone who had the pleasure of visiting. She was kind and caring, always lending an ear to family or friends in need. She would often share her experiences and life lessons with us, making our lives richer and leaving us wiser for the wear. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Vincent Orlosky, Bernadine Orlosky, Ralph Orlosky, and Edward Orlosky. Aunt Jo was a Great, Great, Great Aunt, and is survived by scores of neices, nephews, grand neices, and grand nephews. A Requiem Mass will be held at old historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 125 Park Ave. SW, Aiken, SC 29801, on September 18th at 2 pm. A private burial will be held at Mepkin Abbey. Instead of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Gloverville, SC.
