Jim Fuqua
GREENWOOD - James "Jim" Roger Fuqua, 86, of Greenwood, widower of Malissa Ann Knott Fuqua, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born on June 4, 1939 in Madison, TN, he was a son of the late Roger Cleveland Fuqua and Dorothy Gray Fuqua. Jim earned his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Tech. This expertise led to a successful career at DuPont in Aiken, SC, where he worked until his retirement from what had become Westinghouse.
Jim was a man who was always in motion, forever having a project going on. Whether it was tackling home repairs or meticulously working on cars, he was legendary for being good with his hands. Earning the nickname "Mr. Fix-It," he was truly a jack of all trades, always ready to lend his skills and tools to anyone in need.
He was immensely proud of his military service, having served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. His patriotism and dedication to his country were lifelong hallmarks.
Above all, Jim was a dedicated family man whose love for his family was his greatest project. He was the biggest supporter of all activities his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in, cheering them on with great enthusiasm. He was the detailed planner of all family camping trips, expertly mapping adventures from Maine to Florida and all points in between. A true prankster at heart, he loved to make people laugh and always brought a lighthearted spirit to every gathering.
When he wasn't busy with family or projects, you could often find him listening to the airwaves under his CB Radio handle, Apache King, or passionately cheering on his beloved Clemson Tigers as an avid fan. He was a dedicated member of St. John Methodist Church in Aiken, SC.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Kevin Fuqua (Dr. Linda), Jamie Davis (C.D.), Keisha Uhle (Mike), and Kenneth Fuqua (Lori); sister, Debie Carignan; grandchildren, Dr. Megan Arbra (Dr. Chase), Dr. Lindsay Snider (Dr. Michael), Dr. Matthew Fuqua (Dr. Dana), Danielle Shaffer (Richie), Drew Davies (Alexis), Ryan Uhle, Natalie Uhle, Jared Uhle, Cole Fuqua, Shea Fuqua; great grandchildren, Olivia Arbra, Callum Arbra, Sienna Shaffer, Colbie Shaffer, Aurora Davies, and Lawson Fuqua; and last but not least, his "favorite child" (fur baby), Bella.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Duncan and brother, Richard Fuqua.
Jim's legacy is one of unwavering support, mechanical ingenuity, a deep love for his country, and the simple joy of a life well-lived and well-loved. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at St. John's Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim McClendon officiating, 104 Newberry Street NW, Aiken, 29801.
