Jerome Berendsen Obituary

AIKEN – Mr. Jerome Arthur Berendsen, 92, of Aiken, South Carolina, beloved husband of 71 years to Mrs. Elaine Berendsen, entered into heaven in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 2, 2022, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Berendsen was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Melda Berendsen, and his brothers, Fred, Don, Gerrett, and Howard Berendsen.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 2 o'clock at Lakeside Baptist Church with Pastor Tad Marshall officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 6, 2022, from 6 until 8 o'clock at Lakeside Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Deacons of Lakeside Baptist Church, Skip Atkinson, Larry Haney, John Sanders, Steve Kulp, Tim Littleton, Rick Kruzner, Mark Baxley, and Kevin Padgett. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Joy Sunday School Class.
Mr. Berendsen retired from Kimberly Clark after forty years of service. Mr. Berendsen enjoyed woodworking and was an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. In addition to his spouse, survivors include his children, Jane Simmons, Steve Berendsen (Miriam), and Bill Berendsen; ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakeside Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1730, Clearwater, South Carolina, 29822. The service will be livestreamed at www.besidethelake.com.
