Janie Smith Obituary
FLORENCE, SC - Janie New Smith, 78, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Southland Healthcare Center.
She was born April 9, 1938 in Aiken, SC, a daughter of the late Lewis Wade and Evelyn Rish New.
Janie worked for many years as a supervisor for both Fleet Funding and Fleet Mortgage. She was an avid quilter, completing over 75 quilts.
She was a member of Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a faithful choir member, former choir director, a member of the United Methodist Women, and an active Sunday School member.
Most of all, she loved her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Charles "C. G." Smith of Florence; three sons, Charles G. "Chuck" Smith, Jr. and his wife, Heidi of Cincinnati, OH, Carl G. (Teresa) Smith of Florence, and Clark G. (Michelle) Smith of Aiken; a daughter, Cheryl Ann (Roger) Howle of Quinby; a brother, James (Eunice) New of Graniteville, SC; a sister, Frances (R.W.) Cook of Aiken; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence.
In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY, 10018.
