Janet Louise Shipman Lewis
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Memorial Services for Mrs. Janet Louise Shipman Lewis, 85, who entered into rest February 28, 2014, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from St. Luke United Methodist Church, Sanford, NC. The Rev. Dr. A. Gene Cobb officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Church Columbarium.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Towanda, PA on March 30, 1928 to the late Clarence and Eleanor (Bennett) Shipman. She graduated from North Towanda High School in 1946 and worked for Sylvania.
She was married to the late Ralph Eugene Lewis on September 9, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in North Towanda, PA.
They moved to Mentor, OH in 1959 and lived there for 30 years where she taught nursery school at MUMC for 25 years, sang in the church choir, played in the bell choir and was on various committees throughout the years at Mentor UMC. She was also in the Brentmoor Garden Club and worked as a bookkeeper for the GE Credit Union.
Upon retiring to Carolina Trace in North Carolina, she enjoyed playing golf, singing in the Get Happy Chorus and the St. Luke UMC Choir, serving on the POA board and helping children with reading at the local elementary school. Mrs. Lewis also enjoyed taking care of the neighborhood entrance by planting flowers and decorating for different holidays. She was preceded in death by her brother, Fay Shipman.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Geoffrey and D'Jeanne Lewis, Mentor, OH and David Lewis, Edinburg, OH; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and William Picciano, North Augusta, SC; a brother Clarence Shipman (Peggy), Hideaway, TX; three grandchildren, Kalana Lewis, Alexander Picciano and Milena Picciano.
