Janet MacLaren Kurland
AIKEN - Janet MacLaren Kurland, known to her friends as Munchy, passed away on February 14, 2023 of pneumonia. She was 43.
Munchy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 23, 1979, to Laren and Lawrence Kurland, the eldest of four children. She spent her early years on her parents horse farm in Gum Tree, Pennsylvania where she attended Upland Country Day School, rode her pony and helped out on the farm. The family moved to Vermont when Munchy was in the second grade where riding gave way to skiing and she became a ski racer at Suicide Six. She attended the Holderness School in New Hampshire and then went on with her horse, Ebony, to the Madeira School in McLean, Virginia from which she graduated. She spent happy summers in Weekapaug, Rhode Island until she went off to college. She was graduated from the University of Delaware and did graduate work in historic preservation at the University of Kentucky.
Recently she met the love of her life and was married this past September. She and her husband, Stefan, lived in Ocala, Florida. She is survived by her husband; Stefan Washburn, her parents; Laren and Lawrence Kurland and her three brothers; Darby, Lawrence and Maxwell Kurland.
Burial will be held Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:00AM at All Saints Anglican Church, 110 Fairfield Street, Aiken, South Carolina, 29801.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the All Saints Anglican Church for use in an outreach program dedicated to Janet.
