Jane Vaughters Obituary

Mrs.Carol Jane Landgrebe Vaughters
AIKEN - Mrs. Carol Jane Landgrebe Vaughters, 78, beloved wife of Dr. Ray Bauer Vaughters, Jr., passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
Jane was born on May 31, 1944, in Evansville, Indiana to the late Vera and Harold Landgrebe. She spent her formative years in San Antonio, Texas before attending Southern Methodist University. While at SMU she was a member of Mortar Board, Delta Gamma, and Phi Beta Kappa and there she met her husband, Ray, whom she married in 1966.
Following college, Ray and Jane moved throughout the country living in Mineral Wells, TX, New Orleans, LA, Chicago, IL, and Myrtle Beach, SC, where Ray was a doctor for the Air Force. She loved reading, especially British literature and history, and she taught high school English for several years.
Jane and Ray moved to Aiken, South Carolina in 1974. In addition to building Ray's medical practice and with Jane as his office manager, the two have been deeply involved in Aiken and South Carolina historical preservation and politics. She was a board member for Preservation South Carolina and secretary for the Friends of Hopelands and Rye Patch. Jane was president of the Historic Aiken Foundation and the Aiken Civic Ballet, served on the Aiken City Council for 8 years, was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Aiken, and was a passionate member of Student Club as well as her tight-knit bridge group for many years. She loved traveling with her family and spending time with her close friends.
Mrs. Vaughters was married to her husband, Dr. Ray Bauer Vaughters, Jr., for 57 years. She is survived by her husband and their four children, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Bauer and Deedee Vaughters of Aiken, SC, daughter and son-in-law, Claire and John Christerson of Roswell, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Dr. Ann Vaughters of Richmond, VA, son and daughter-in-law Clayton and Galen Vaughters of Newport, RI, and seven grandchildren, Ford, Ellen and Henry Vaughters, Charlotte and Maggie Christerson, and Elsie Jane and Lee Vaughters, all of whom she loved dearly.
Jane will be remembered as a devoted mother and wife, a passionate learner, and an advocate for her community. She had a kind smile, a generous heart, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at George Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19 with her burial at All Saints Anglican Church immediately following. The family will receive friends after the service at their home.

Ray we found Janie´s obituary and discovered what we had suspected, was true. We are so very sorry you have lost her. We have been remembering good times in New Orleans, years of Christmas letters, and a few wonderful visits. Janie was much admired by Charlotte and me. We felt a kinship that stood the test of time. We are diminished by her death. Our hearts are with you. Love

Dear Vaughters Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Jane was a wonderful woman and I will always have fond memories of her. My sons, Carter and Hunter, spent so much time with her when they visited their grandparents Ginny and Steve Peterson.

Sending love and prayers.
